What is yoga therapy?

Yoga therapy is a holistic approach to health and well being in which every aspect of the individual is nourished. The body has its own innate intelligence and superb healing mechanisms. Yoga therapy is a method by which to support and encourage that intelligence and assist the body in its proper functioning and journey towards optimum health. Yoga therapy is unique in that it works upon the mind and body together in a way that is in harmony with nature.

Yoga can help you to realise your full potential. In this way you will experience greater harmony, happiness and well being. Yoga therapy incorporates a broad range of practical techniques. Depending upon the treatment, it may involve postures, breathing exercises, inner purification exercises, and deep relaxation. We will work on developing a sequence of exercises tailored to your individual needs and which you can then practice at home. In this way we foster independence and encourage you to take an active part in your own healing journey.

How does yoga therapy differ from a yoga class?

A yoga therapy session is usually one-to-one and the therapist will work specifically on a particular aspect of your health and well being. It could be that you have an injury you are working with or a more general feeling of ill-health. In the initial consultation you will be asked to complete a brief health history questionnaire and we will talk about which aspect of your health you would like to focus on.

Yoga therapy studio

James and Alice are able to offer yoga therapy sessions from their home in rural Devon. They have a small, custom built yoga studio in their garden called 'the old piggery' (pictured right.) Set in an idyllic rural location near Haldon forest, this is a peaceful environment in which to practice yoga. The studio is fully equiped and is perfect for yoga therapy.

Prices for yoga therapy at the Old Piggery:
One hour session: £35
One and half hour session: £50
The cost of the first session includes an additional, free 15 minute consultation.

Alternatively, it may be possible to arrange a private class in your home. The same rates would apply plus any additional fuel costs incurred.
